Music therapy is very well established at Woodcroft School and has been part of our provision for many decades. We see it as an important part of the school’s life, and a great help to the varied emotional needs of our pupils.
Our music therapist works three days a week and offers regular weekly sessions to those pupils on the music therapy programme.
The music therapist works to establish and develop a relationship with the child based on shared improvised music making. The sessions are at the same time, place and duration each week to provide a sense of continuity and familiarity. In each session the therapist works to support and develop the child’s musical play, thus helping to provide an experience in which interaction, emotional expression and communication are facilitated.
